In an announcement made in January of this year by Terry Myerson, operating system chief for Microsoft, the coming arrival of the new system came with the promise of free upgrades. Any current user of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 can take advantage of this free gift, but they need to do so within one year of the launch and that date is 29 July, 2015. Myserson has stated that Windows 10 is more of a service than simply a piece of software, and as such the company will continue to provide free updates for the life of the device.
